Nevada NRCS

Tribal Grazing Management

Applications Due March 15, 2012    Deadline Extended to April 30, 2012

The NRCS in Nevada is offering a special Tribal Grazing Management Fund Pool to assist Tribal producers with rangeland conservation efforts on Tribal lands.  This funding will be made available under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) of the 2008 Farm Bill.

All of our conservation practices are eligible under this fund pool, including fencing.  Fencing on tribal lands, as with all agricultural lands, must address a resource concern such as water quality or plant health.  NRCS policy prohibits paying for fencing on boundary lines between landowners or land uses.  NRCS in Nevada has interpreted this policy to mean the outside boundary of the Reservation, exclusive of individual permitees.

Examples of what fencing projects would and would not qualify are included on the enclosed fact sheet.  A partial list of resource concerns and conservation practices we offer is included on the back of the fact sheet.

The Nevada NRCS will work closely with Tribal leadership and the Bureau of Indian Affairs to ensure that the location and placement of any fence project on Tribal land is acceptable and appropriate, and will seek their approval before any fencing practice is approved.

Applications for this Tribal Grazing Management fund pool must be submitted by March 15, 2012.  April 30, 2012.

For more information, contact your local NRCS Nevada field office or Gary Roeder, Assistant State Conservationist - Programs, at (775) 875-8500.
