Overview
The NRCS provides cost share assistance to agricultural producers to remove
or control herbaceous weeds, including invasive, noxious and prohibited plants,
on private and public land.
Purpose
Herbaceous weed control improves forage conditions for domestic livestock or
wildlife.
The practice will:
- Enhance accessibility, quantity, and quality of forage and/or browse
- Restore or release native or create desired plant communities and
wildlife habitat consistent with the ecological site
- Protect soils
- Control erosion
- Reduce fine-fuels fire hazard and improve air quality
Conditions Where the Practice Applies
Herbaceous weed control is applicable on range and pasture land where
removal, reduction, or manipulation of herbaceous vegetation is desired. This
practice does not apply to active cropland. For active cropland, use Integrated
Pest Management (Practice Code 595).
Eligible lands include range and pasture on both private and public land
allotments.
Financial Assistance
NRCS will provide eligible landowners with financial payments for the cost
for chemical and its application. Historically underserved producers, including
beginning, socially disadvantaged, and limited resource farmers and ranchers may
be eligible for a higher payment rate. Payments will be made at the current,
established program payment rates.
